The Glynn Academy Lady Red Terrors used a fast-paced run-and-shoot offense to outscore Liberty County, 67-46, at home Tuesday night.

The visiting Lady Terrors pulled ahead, 19-8, in the first quarter and the Liberty girls struggled to get rebounds, which gave the Terrors several attempts at sinking in second shots.

Liberty trailed by 11 at the half and never closed the gap to end the season 9-12 overall and 4-6 in Region 2A-AAAA.

Tiara Howard and Bryonna Graham scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Liberty County.

Coach Carolyn Kelly said this season has been a learning experience. First, the girls had to contend with new region opponents. Throughout the season they were dealt with a slew of injuries.

"We’ve had to deal with an abundance of injuries," Kelly said. "We started off 3-0 and the season was looking bright, but unfortunately for us we had a number of kids get hurt throughout the season. We had some that were able to come back and some that never healed and were not able to come back. Anytime you lose a key component, like Diamone Johnson, then you lose a big part of your team and you have to depend on your younger kids to come up behind them and play."

Kelly wound up starting three true freshmen, a junior and a sophomore while Johnson sat out and Howard, the team’s point guard, missed a few games due to injury.

"When we were able to get my one guard back (Howard), we won those two games on the stretch and then lost to Glynn," she said. "We are just hoping that bringing back Tiara Howard will add a plus before we get ready to go into the region tournament."

The Lady Panthers finished in fifth place in their sub-region and will travel to Guyton to play at 5:30 p.m. Monday, but Liberty doesn’t know yet who it will face.

"We beat Ware County … but then Brunswick messed around and got beat by Wayne County," she said. "That shows you our level of competition is kind of neck and neck with the teams on our side."

Lady Panthers top scorers:

Tiara Howard 11, Bryonna Graham 10, Courtney Rhodes 8, Catherine Scaggs 7, Precious Williams 6, Brittany Brown 2, Charlee Coursey 2.
