Sayvon Wilson tossed in 23 points to help lead Liberty County to a 52-47 win Tuesday against visiting Glynn Academy.

Mike Farrior chipped in 13 points to help the Panthers end the regular season with a 16-7 record overall and 6-4 mark in Region 2A-AAAA.

A strong defensive game led to a low scoring first half, and in the second half errors cost the Red Terrors.

"Down the stretch, we made fewer costly mistakes than they did and we shot better from the free throw line," Panthers coach Willie Graham said.

The Panthers and Glynn are tied for second in the sub-region. Liberty will travel to Guyton to play South Effingham in the first round of the region playoffs at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"I don’t know anything about them other than they are the last place team on the other side (of the sub-region)," Graham said of the Mustangs. "But at this time of the year we look at it as being our second season and to continue playing you have to win. We have to win this first game to move on and keep going."

Graham said the teams on both sides of their sub-region are fairly close.

"But at this time of year you have to be playing well," he said. "We still haven’t peaked. I think we played our best ball in spots at times so hopefully we can start putting together longer periods of good basketball over the next week’s play so we can go on to the state playoffs. Free-throw shooting is going to be critical as will taking care of the basketball and not turning it over in unnecessary situations."

The Panthers were bounced out of the playoffs in the second round in 2010.

Liberty top scorers:

Shakur Cook 2, Michael Farrior 13, Sayvon Wilson 23, Tabias Marion 6, Tucory Rhodes 2, Melvin King 6.
