Bradwell Institute locked up the No. 7 seed in the Region 3-AAAAA postseason basketball tournament by routing Islands High, 65-30, on Monday in a play-in game in Savannah.

But the final score wasn’t indicative of what took place on the court, BI coach Pete Woodward said.

"We were extremely complacent tonight. We just didn’t come out with intensity and zest we have had in the past," he said.

In a see-saw battle, Bradwell held a narrow 16-11 lead at the end of the opening period, but the Sharks didn’t go away and continued to challenge the Tigers until minutes before halftime when BI began to edge away.

Bradwell led, 32-18, at halftime and took control of the contest from there.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Jamael Smith with 14 points. Dazjon Tinae and Cameron Kight finished with seven points each.

"You have to be ready every time that you hit the floor regardless of who you are playing, and I think we learned that tonight. Even though it was a lopsided victory we didn’t play our best basketball," Woodard said.

Bradwell faced No. 2 seed Savannah in the opening round of the region tourney.

"What can I say? It’s Savannah," Woodard said. "They have been here for a lot of years. Tim Jordan will have his boys ready to come after us hard and heavy. But if we come out and play with intensity, protect the basketball and get rebounds, it could be anyone’s game."
