The Wayne County High School baseball team only took three innings to defeat the Long County team this past Monday when the two teams played in Jesup. The 2-AAAA team showed it was the better team on the diamond that day, defeating the 2-AA Blue Tide, 17-0.

"It was a tough loss, but our players took it well. We tip our cap to Wayne County; they are a great hitting team and are surely one of the top contenders for their region crown. They possibly will contend for a state title," Blue Tide coach Brian Thomas said.

"It was a good lesson for us to take on into the season; we learned what good teams do when they get opportunities" he added.

On Thursday, the Blue Tide traveled to Pembroke to take on the Bryan County team.

The Redskins went into that game 0-1 after falling to Richmond Hill, so one of the teams will have a win today.

When the two teams met last year, the Tide easily won, 13-2.

The Tide is on the road again tonight, this time traveling to Savannah to challenge Windsor Forest High School. This is the first game of the season for the Knights.

When Long and Windsor Forest met last year, the Tide was too much for the Knights and won, 10-0.

"We are very much looking forward to getting back on the road Thursday going to Bryan County," Thomas said. "They have a good team, and I am sure it will be a challenge; the same can be said for Windsor Forest. These early-season games are important because we get to see how we can play in certain spots; they should both be tough tests."
