A bizarre case that involved a shooting and vehicle theft last Nov. 4 at the residence of Thelma and Calvin Caswell in Hinesville has ended with a guilty plea.
Noel Doye pleaded guilty last week in Liberty County Superior Court to one count of theft by taking, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of burglary and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime.
On the night of the crime, Doye was found sleeping on the couch of the Caswells’ home when they arrived home at about 9 p.m. Startled when he was awakened, he pulled a gun and grabbed Thelma Caswell by her jacket collar. He later pushed her aside and fought with Calvin Caswell, eventually shooting him in the thigh.
Doye fled the home taking the couple’s car keys and returned to their residence at about 5 a.m., taking their Tahoe.
A police chase ended with Doye’s apprehension.
As a result of his plea deal, Doye was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
