The Friends of Shellman Bluff will celebrate its 10th year of parades and fundraising efforts Saturday, March 19. To commemorate the anniversary of 10 years supporting the volunteer fire departments and other community needs, the theme is “A Decade of Firin’ It Up on the Bluff.” Bill Aquiar, a founding member of Friends of Shellman Bluff and longtime volunteer, will serve as the grand marshal.
Parade events will begin at 9 a.m. when the vendor site opens in front of Boating Sales and Service. Vendor participants will include arts and crafts, food services, local civic groups and parade T-shirt sales. Family activities will be available along with live entertainment throughout the day.
The 10th annual Friends of Shellman Bluff St. Patrick’s Day parade will begin at 1 p.m. Included in the parade procession will be numerous Shriner groups, the McIntosh County Academy Marching Band and bands from neighboring counties, antique tractors and fire trucks from local departments, along with classic fire trucks. Invited to ride in the parade are the 2010 Friends of Shellman Bluff Scholarship recipients from MCA, Jacob Caldwell, Kiera Cliatt and Gary Ryals.
The parade will feature classic cars that also will be in the classic car show, which includes trophy awards. Individuals can enter their decorated golf carts or floats in the parade and be judged on the best use of the parade theme. Local and circuit court judges will conduct the judging. The parade participants are encouraged to “bribe the judges” to improve their chances of winning. The “bribe” funds go to help the Friends of Shellman Bluff fundraising efforts.
The Friends of Shellman Bluff is a 10-year-old, Georgia-registered, nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life for the residents of Shellman Bluff and the surrounding communities.
