The Long County High School baseball team (2-3) got back on the winning track this past Thursday, beating Bryan County High School (2-2), 14-5, in Ludowici.

In the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded, Shawn Mills cracked a double into center field, scoring the first two runs of the game. Long County added another run to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The Blue Tide bats got hot again in the bottom of the fifth. They scored nine more runs en route to a 14-5 win.

The leading batters for the night were Clint Kennedy, who went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs; Luke Golden, who was 3 for 5; Chris Stock, who went 3 for 4; and Austin Middleton, who went 2 for 5 with a triple.

"It was a very tight game until the ninth inning when we scored nine runs … I was very happy with the win. It was a good answer to our loss to Bryan last Thursday," Blue Tide coach Brian Thomas said.

On Friday, Long County was back at home again, this time taking on Tattnall County (2-1) in a big 2-AA matchup. The two teams entered the game 0-1 in the region, so both needed a victory. On Friday, Thomas said he hoped Thursday’s win would help his team in that game.

"I think that (this win) shows our willingness to work hard at practice and (our) ability to make adjustments. I hope it will carry us into to the game tonight against Tattnall County," he Thomas.

Long County takes on Claxton High School (4-2) in a non-region game Monday. The Tigers are
riding a three-game win streak.

A story on Long County’s games against Tattnall County and Claxton will be in this Wednesday’s Coastal Courier.
