An argument Saturday afternoon over a pickup truck and liquor led to a gunfire exchange in Midway.
According to a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office report filed by Deputy Gary Richardson, who responded to a call of shots being fired in the 1300 block of Luke Road, he found Leonard Beasley sitting on the back of his pickup, bleeding from a wound on the right side of his head.
Beasley said he and Ronald Miller got into a dispute over liquor and Miller allegedly trying to take Beasley’s truck.
Miller, who also lives on Luke Road and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the report, told police that the incident began when Beasley shot at him while he was standing in the doorway of his mobile home. The report states Beasley allegedly took a shotgun and fired a round, which went through the doorway and out a rear window of the home. Miller said he had moved from the doorway before the round went off.
Beasley, who also appeared to be intoxicated, according to the report, told the officer he was shot by Miller when he tried to get into his truck and leave. Beasley told police Miller fired at the back window with a shotgun and one of the projectiles hit him.
LCSO Detective Jeff Hein said authorities have evidence that indicates both men discharged firearms.
The sheriff’s office confiscated two shotguns from the men. Miller was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Beasley refused medical aid from emergency medical personnel. According to Hein, the incident still is under investigation.
