The widening and reconstruction of Frank Cochran Drive soon will move forward, Hinesville officials said Thursday during a regular city council meeting.
Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas told Liberty County Chamber of Commerce members during a Progress through People luncheon Thursday the city had just seven more parcels to acquire for the necessary right-of-way. Thomas added the Georgia Department of Transportation had agreed to a right-of-way acquisition contract. The council voted to approve the contract with GDOT at its meeting late Thursday afternoon. The contract concerns the portion of Frank Cochran Road from north of Georgia Highway 119 to McNeely Road.
In other city business:
• The city council voted to appoint District 2 Council Member Jason Floyd to the Hinesville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization policy committee. The seat previously was filled by former city council member Bobby Ryon.
• The council voted to reappoint Walter Taylor, Pete Clark and John Pirkle to the Historic Preservation Commission. Irene McCall was reappointed to the Hinesville Housing Authority for a five-year term. The council decided to postpone making appointments to the Ethics Committee until its next meeting, scheduled for May 5. Four current members, Curtis Velasco, John Stetzer, Beverly Pitts and Liston Singletary wish to be reappointed, according to Thomas. Committee member D.S. Andrews did not, the mayor said.
• AAA Georgia Roofing owner Wayne Cobb was granted a peddler’s license from the city Thursday. Three AAA representatives may solicit homeowners in need of roofing repair services. The company previously had been seen performing roofing work without the necessary building permits and business license. Cobb apologized to the council and cooperated with city staff to acquire the necessary permits.
