The Long County Sheriff’s Office and the Ludowici/Long County Fire Department Auxiliary donated $2,982 to the family of Josh Berry to help with the costs of the teen’s cancer treatment.
Josh Berry, who is the son of LCSO Chief Deputy Robert Berry, attends Long County High School and was diagnosed with leukemia in November.
The sheriff’s office and fire-department auxiliary raised money by selling raffle tickets for a $500 prize, a 102-gallon Yeti cooler and a Minn Kota trolling boat motor.
David Golden pulled the winning tickets Saturday at the Long County Sheriff’s Office. Ludowici resident Earnest King won the $500 first prize, Townsend resident Glenn Townsend took home the second-prize cooler and Ludowici resident Randy Downs won the boat motor.
L/LCFDA Vice President Margie Deloach said more than 700 tickets were sold for the raffle.
She also said her organization has donated more than $100,000 in fire equipment since it had been created and that they plan to continue to do more in the future.
“We appreciate everyone’s help. On behalf of the Berry family, we want to say thanks,” LCSO Deputy Craig Nobles said. “We also want everyone to know that both the sheriff’s office and the auxiliary will be asking for their help in the near future for Vicky Hall.”
Vicky Hall is the daughter of LCSO Sgt. Mark Hall. She is a student at Smiley Elementary School and was diagnosed with leukemia in February.
A poker run to raise funds for Hall’s family is scheduled for Aug. 27.
