Ten scholarships worth $1,000 each will be awarded to local high school seniors, thanks to the Martin Luther King Observance Association Golf Tournament, which took place April 16 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville.
“It was great, and I want to thank our sponsors and all of the golf teams and participants for a very successful tournament this year,” said Kenneth Howard, second vice president of the Liberty County MLK Observance Association. “Of course, without them we could not help students. We are fortunate that this year we are able to award 10
$1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors who desire to further their education.”
Howard thanked tournament committee members Joseph Ford, Velma Tyler Wilson, Daisy Jones, Hinesville Mayor Pro Tem Charles Frasier, Nicole Carter and Laucenia Frasier.
“I also want to thank young Matthew Carter for his assistance on the day of the tournament,” Howard said.
The MLKOA scholarship committee is in the process of reviewing scholarship applications and making selections. The winners will be announced before graduation.
In the past nine years, $50,000 has been awarded to deserving local seniors.
“We were presenting scholarships before we began the golf tournaments, and the tournaments increased our giving levels,” Howard said. “This would not be possible without our sponsors and people throughout the community.”
Howard also recognized the following companies and organizations for providing door prizes for the tournament: Victory Trophies, Baldinos, Taylors Creek Golf Course, Southeast Auto Service, Coastal Muffler and Auto Repair, Lube Fast, Castrol Car Care Center, VIP Printing & Office Supply, Arby’s and Food Lion.
