Though rain came and clouds hung around, the Long County Touchdown Club’s sixth annual golf tournament went ahead as scheduled Saturday at the Cherokee Rose Golf Club in Hinesville.
Thirteen teams played in the tourney, raising approximately $3,700 to support the Blue Tide football program.
This year, the team of Frank Way, Robbie Skipper, Ricky Floyd and Ben Floyd took home the top spot with an impressive score of 17-under-par.
The second-place team, which finished the day at 15-under, consisted of Craig Stafford, Drew Johnson, Hal Stafford and Clifford Johnson. Rounding out the top three with a 14-under was the team of Anthony Howard, Toby Howard, Tracey Howard and Kris Brinker.
In the individual events on the third and 13th holes, Ben Floyd won both of the closest-to-the-pin contests, while the longest-drive award went to Jared Sellars.
The raised money will go to the Blue Tide football program to help fund football camps and meals for the team.
Sponsors for the event were Ludowici Drugs, Phillips and Kitchens Law Practice, The Ludowici Bank, Joys-N-Toys, Buckley & Associates, The Ludowici Church of God, Georgia Power, N2-N, Dunkin Donuts, Breesy Store, Robert & Harriet Smith, Clifton & Linda DeLoach, Judge Jeffrey Arnold, Dr. Robert Waters, Dr. Vicky Wells, Emma Strickland, Mike Riddle, Ronnie Smiley, Scotty Hattaway, and T.J. & Casey’s: Elysium Graphics.
Tournament organizer Joey Harrington called the day a success.
“I want to thank the players who came out and fought the rain, all who helped put the day together, the Coastal Courier for running our announcement and especially all of our local community for donating prizes, money and sponsoring our holes,” Harrington said. “We sure appreciate them.”
Touchdown Club officers are David Golden, president; Deonna Carter, vice-president; Kelly Clary, treasurer; and Kim Stock, secretary.
