The Gum Branch Fire Department hosted a fish fry and classic car show this past Saturday at the Gum Branch park.
The event was a fundraiser for the fire support team and the department.
Activities began at about 9 a.m. and continued into the night.
The car show had several automobiles of distinction, including a 1923 T-Bucket, a 1934 Ford Coupe and a 1967 GTO.
A 1970 Chevelle Malibu won second place in the competition, while a 2002 Dodge truck won first place. In addition to winning the event, the truck also won the “People’s Choice Award.”
The Dodge truck was silver with white and gray flames on the sides, and also had Lamborghini doors, as just a few of its options.
The fire department also had Centerstage Entertainment, out of Clyo, come down and volunteer their time performing for all the people who came out for the day.
“We just thought it was a good cause, so we wanted to do all we could to come out and help,” Centerstage singer Brooks Donahue said.
In addition to Donahue performing, Mike and Robbie Floyd also sang their tunes.
Two of the other fundraising events were a cake auction and the selling of fish dinners.
The children had pony rides and C&S Fun Time donated the use and set up of a MoonWalk during the day.
According to Wendy Averett, who helped organize the day, “It has been a great day, and we are so thankful for all the people who have helped with the day, and made donations.”
Averett also said the department was planning a yard sale at the fire department Oct. 13 and a barbecue dinner on Oct. 20 to help raise money for the department.
Fire Chief Thomas Fisher said, “It has been a good day; we have sold over 350 dinners so far, and I am thankful to all who came out.”
