Coastal Courier readers can now easily access the latest stories, headlines and photos on the go. The newspaper recently launched a new version of its website for cell phones and other mobile devices. The site, viewable on all handheld web browsers, is at www.coastalcourier.com/m.

Coastalcourier.com/m is a mobile site, not an application for a specific mobile device, and should work well with most mobile devices, Courier web editor Pat Watkins said. Whenever a user accesses the Courier’s regular site with a mobile device, the reader automatically will be routed to the mobile site.

“We’re seeing more and more people using smart phones and this new part of our site is designed to get them headline news quickly. It will have breaking news alerts. Subscribers can even read full stories and view the photographs that accompany them,” Watkins said.

The Courier’s mobile site was built by Morris Multimedia’s development team, which is based at Georgia Southern University.
“Our goal has been to expand local news delivery options to our readers and this is one more way to do that,” said Courier publisher Mark Griffin. “We think this mobile site is good and will benefit those people who want to know what is happening in Liberty County.”

Courier managing editor Hollie Moore Barnidge said she hopes readers will take advantage of the site, which she said offers quality content in an easily-accessible format.

“I’m thrilled to have a mobile version of the Coastal Courier website up and running,” she said. “In this day and age, when almost everyone can browse the Internet from their phones, this mobile site will allow our readers to easily keep up with what’s going on in their hometown while they’re on the go.”
