Long County resident Robert M. "Bob" Clem recently was elected to fill a vacancy as supreme quartermaster in The Military Order of the Cootie, the honor degree of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Although the election for the full 2011-12 term will be in September at the national convention in San Antonio, Texas, Clem said he is confident he will be re-elected.

Clem has been the Georgia quartermaster/adjutant for the past 10 years. He was the captain of the all-stars as the state commander in 2001-02.

Clem served in Vietnam, which made him eligible to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He joined the VFW in Ocala, Fla., in 1977.

Clem said he is looking forward to his service to the organization as supreme quartermaster.
