Former Long County High School standout Linda Stephens recently was named a collegiate archery All-American as a member of the Georgia Southern University club archery team.
Stephens, who is a sophomore at GSU, earned the distinction based on her performances in the United States Collegiate Archery Indoor Tournament and the United States Intercollegiate Archery Championship.
Stephens finished seventh at the USCAI, which took place in February in Conyers and included a field of more than 50 teams.
In May, Stephens placed sixth in the USAIC in Harrisonburg, Va., to wrap up the season as one of the top 10 female archers in the recurve bow category. In addition to being selected as an All-American, Stephens also was named to the All-Academic team by maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average her freshman year.
Archery is a club sport at Georgia Southern. The Eagles’ archery team is in its second year and led by coach Carl Greene.
Before becoming an Eagle, Stephens in 2010 led the Long County 4-H archery team to a Georgia title and bronze medal in national competition.
