Auto parts company helps fight against juvenile diabetes

POSTED: October 11, 2007 5:03 a.m.
Advance Auto Parts stores of Hinesville are participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes, its national headquarters’ annual fundraising campaign for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
“We basically sell shoes,” Billy Bostick, manager of the Highway 84 store, said.
With a donation of $1, $25 or $50, a paper sneaker with the donator’s name can be displayed on the store’s window for the month.  Donations go to the research foundation.
The goal of each store nationwide is to raise $500.
“Some stores greatly exceed the goal,” Bostick said.
Hinesville Advance Auto Parts stores are no exception, raising $695 last year at the West Oglethorpe Highway location and over $500 at the E. G. Miles Pkwy store.
“All funds go to research for a cure,” Bostick said. “It’s distributed anywhere research is being done for a cure.”
This is the 13th year of fundraising for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the store is “making it (the fundraising campaign) priority,” Bostick said.
As a whole, the Advance Auto Parts stores around the nation have donated more than $12 million to the research foundation since the fundraiser began in 1994.
