Terrell Mill fire contained

POSTED: July 13, 2011 9:36 a.m.

The Terrell Mill Pond fire in Hinesville that was sparked June 28 by a lightning strike is 100 percent contained, according to information provided by Nicole Hawk, public affairs specialist for the USDA Forest Service.

The forest service is warning residents to stay out of the fire area. There are numerous hazards, including falling trees and snags, potholes, hot spots, smoke and equipment at work. As vegetation in the swamp begins to dry out, there also is the possibility of “reburn,” when areas that have burned once burn again.

The forest service estimates the fire burned 372 acres.
