Teacher attending global Cold War seminar

POSTED: July 14, 2011 10:00 a.m.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Bradwell Institute history teacher James Wisner will travel to Clare College at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England, to attend a July 17-23 application seminar titled “The Global Cold War.”
Directed by Odd Arne Westad, professor of international history at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the seminar will “examine the latest scholarly research on Cold War history to better understand the lengthy, occasionally dangerous and (almost) always intriguing history of the era,” organizers said.
The Gilder Lehrman Institute conducts seminars for K-12 educators and National Park Service interpreters. This summer, the institute’s seminars will offer more than 1,000 participants the chance to study American history with scholars of the field. Held at institutions throughout the United States and Great Britain, the weeklong seminars provide intellectual stimulation and practical resources and strategies to take back to the classroom.
In each seminar, educators work with primary-source documents provided by the professors and the Gilder Lehrman Collection. Each educator receives reading materials, room and board, transportation for tours and a stipend.
