The Hinesville Hurricanes improved to 2-0 with a  runaway 86-0 win Saturday over the East Georgia Rebels in Hinesville.
The defending Southeast American Football League champions were just about perfect against East Georgia, scoring a touchdown on all but one of the Hurricanes’ 12 possessions.
The Rebels never came close to scoring. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, got points from nearly everyone except the water boy.
Tracy Lewis, Jay Taylor and Devon Gray led Hinesville in scoring.
Gray had a touchdown and two extra points, Taylor had two touchdowns and an extra point, and Lewis had three TDs — one on a carry, one on a pass reception and a third when he returned a punt for a score after a safety.
Quarterback Frank Troup threw four touchdown passes for the Hurricanes, who led, 32-0, at the end of the first quarter and 52-0 at halftime.
Alfonzo Brewster, who manhandled his men all night and had two solo sacks, led a Hinesville defense that not only shut out the visiting team, it also  never allowed the Rebels to get a first down.
East Georgia fell to 0-2.
Hurricanes head coach James Sharpe Jr. said he hoped the contest would help prepare his team for the next contest against the Anderson (S.C.) Red Dogs.
“They’re the team we played last year in the championship,” Sharpe said. “I told the guys to focus tonight on what we will have to do next week. We also mixed some things up. We put a couple of different guys in there at quarterback in case we have to move Troup around. We want to be ready.”
