Students sat and listened attentively to the story as it was shown on the Smart Board.
At the end of the story, Diana Sanker, their computer lab teacher and event organizer, gave each child a perfumed flower and a certificate that celebrated their involvement in the Read for the Record campaign.
Read for the Record is an annual event sponsored by the civic-minded Jumpstart organization.
Each year hundreds of thousands of adults and children gather to read a pre-selected children’s book.
The story events are intended to raise awareness about the importance of early education.
Last year, more than 150,000 children and adults set a record on Aug. 24, 2006, for reading "The Little Engine that Could."
