Magnolia Manor on the Coast in Richmond Hill will welcome Paul Moffatt Pressly as guest speaker in their Renaissance Lecture Series. Pressly will enlighten guests to facts about Ossabaw Island as well as give a snapshot of the Island’s activities today.
Ossabaw Island was sold to the State of Georgia by Eleanor Torrey-West under the understanding that the Island would not be developed but would “only be used for natural, scientific and cultural study, research and education, and environmentally sound preservation, conservation and management of the Island’s ecosystem.”
Ossabaw Island is currently maintained by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in conjunction with a use agreement with The Ossabaw Island Foundation. There are more than 200 archeological sites on the island with artifacts dating back over 4,000 years.
Pressly became Director of the Ossabaw Island Education Alliance in 2005.
Prior to this he was at Savannah Country Day School for 23 years, first as upper school principal and then as headmaster.
He currently serves on the Board of The Telfair Museum and Georgia Historical Society and is a member of The University of Georgia Press Advisory Council.
