The Walker Middle School football and softball teams are, so far, having a great years.

Football
The Wildcat football team has been practicing since the first of the month, and the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders are showing why they were undefeated in 2010. Next Wednesday the Wildcats will get the opportunity to hit someone other than one of their teammates. They play in a round-robin tournament in Waycross.
In the next two weeks, the team will remain on the road playing Martha Puckett Middle in Jesup and Ware County Middle in Waycross. The Wildcats first home game will be at 5 p.m. on Sept. 14 against Appling County Middle.
William Hadley is the Wildcat’s head coach, assisted by Paul Austin and Michael Taylor.

Softball
The Lady Wildcat softball team won two  games Saturday, defeating Martha Puckett and Arthur Williams Middle Schools, also in Jesup, in a pre-season tournament. In the early game Martha Puckett jumped out to a 5-0 lead and things didn’t look good for the team from Ludowici. But the Walker team fought their way back, defeating the Jesup team 8-5. In the second game, they fell behind early again, but with solid defense and timely hitting they came back and won 6-5.
The 2011 Lady Wildcats are Harley Dawson, Katie Estill, Makaylee Fowler, Brenda Gomez, Hannah Gordon, Hailey Hendrix, Madisyn Hendley, Elizabeth Hewitt, Katie Hodges, Hannah McGowan, Natalie Pattision, AmBria Raymer, Lauren Rogers, Caitlin Wingate, Malaka Elix and Kaleigh Abbott.
Head coach is Dennis Pattison, assisted by Reggie Wilkes.
Monday, the girls play at home, taking on the middle school team from Jeff Davis County; that game is at 4 p.m.

Lady Tide JV lose to Wayne

The past week the Long County junior varsity softball team lost a tough game to the Wayne County JV.
Playing in Ludowici in front of the home fans, the Lady Tide girls put up a game effort but lost to the Yellow Jackets 15-0.
