The Long County High School softball fell 4-2 to Brantley County on Thursday in Ludowici.
The loss dropped the Lady Tide to 5-10 overall and 0-2 in Region 2-AA while the win was the first in the region for the Lady Herons, who improved to 7-2 overall.
“The difference (in the game) was that Brantley was able to execute more bunts than we did,” Lady Tide coach Brian Thomas said. “They played very well and we did too. We lost because we did not do all the small things as well as they did.”
Despite the loss, Thomas was pleased with the performance of several of his players.
“Miranda Taylor was a vacuum at third base,” he said. “She had six put-outs and was stellar all day, Taylor Poole also pitched outstanding, only surrendering two earned runs, and Amber Wilson made a great running catch in right field.”
The close game showed the Lady Tide can play with anyone in Region 2-AA, Thomas said.
“Brantley has a great squad, and I think it will give us a ton of confidence knowing that we are not that far from being a very good softball team,” he said.
The Lady Tide travel to Blackshear on Tuesday to take on Appling County.  The Lady Pirates are currently 4-4 overall and 1-0 in 2-AA. The first pitch will be thrown at 5:30 p.m.
