The Long County High School softball team continued to struggle in its region on Tuesday, losing to Appling County, 12-0, in Baxley.
The Lady Tide were held hitless as their record fell to 5-11 overall and 0-3 in Region 2-AA.
After the game, Long County head coach Brian Thomas said he was disappointed with his team’s performance and had expected more out of the girls.
“I thought we could have done a better job offensively,” he said. “We knew that Appling County could score runs, but we weren’t able to match them.
The coach also said his team has to improve mentally if the girls want to have a shot at making the playoffs.
“We are going to have to get mentally tougher in practice and in our games,” Thomas said. “We go through stretches where we play great, then stretches when we do not play as well. We are going to really focus on the mental aspect of the game over the last month, and I think that will lead to more wins.”
On Thursday, the Lady Tide were back in the friendly confines of Ludowici to take on Pierce County. Long County lost, 15-6.
Last year, the two teams split their series as the Lady Tide won the first game, 11-9, and the Lady Bears won the second game, 7-2.
