BI, Long, Liberty suffer losses

POSTED: September 16, 2011 11:04 p.m.

Bradwell and Johnson High were battling it out on Olvey Field and had the game tied at 14 going into halftime. But the Atom smashers controlled the clock for most of the second half and their running game broke open in the third. The Tigers managed to put points on the board but the Atom smashers answered taking a 21-20 lead. In the fourth quarter the visiting team aired it out twice on fourth down and ran in a touchdown to lead 27-20 with 1:17 left on the clock. The Tigers had a good punt return and completed passes and got just beyond midfield. With 3.2 left in regulation Tiger quarterback Myrese Cobb aired it out to DeAnte Day but it was out of bounds, handing the Tigers a loss at home at the buzzer.

Over in Statesboro the Blue Devils were looking to avenge last year's loss to the Liberty Panthers (29-0) and managed to edge out a 17-14 win against an unforgiving Panther defense. Senior Panther running back Shadrach Thorton unofficially tallied 250 yards rushing and scored both Panther touchdowns.

In Darien, McIntosh County Academy shut down Long County's office and ran away with a 35-0 win.
