Amid a downpour in Savannah Thursday afternoon the Lady Warriors of Jenkins managed to put their Region 3-AAAAA softball game away early, beating Bradwell Institute by the run-rule 11-1 in five innings.
Lady Tiger coach Sharyl Eastlake said it came down to one bad inning and miserable playing conditions due to the rain.
“But their (Jenkins) spirits were up and ready to play,” she said about the Warriors.
The Lady Warriors pitcher, Helen Keevy, allowed only two hits in five innings for the win. Lady Tiger Karson Rogers took the loss.
The victory allowed Jenkins to clinch the No. 2 spot in the region according to ga.prepcountry.com. The Lady Tigers are third and are still contenders for region and state playoffs.
Bradwell is 11-9, 5-3 and will travel to Islands High School on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
The Liberty County High School softball team also didn’t fare well this week, losing  14-5 at Ware County on Tuesday and falling 11-0 to Wayne County during a drizzle at home Thursday.
The Lady Panthers (3-19, 0-10) are set to honor their seven seniors on Wednesday when they host Long County for their final regular season game. The first pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
