More than 1,000 Cubs and parents attended the Boy Scouts of America Coastal Empire Council Cub Scouts Heritage Cuboree last weekend in Allenhurst, and event organizers are calling the weekend a success.
Pack 141 Cub Master Lonnie Dombrowsky and Rick Seagrave coordinated the program, which included games and surprise Civil War re-enactments. Before the event, Dombrowsky said he anticipated a crowd of about 500 for the weekend campout.
Emmanuel Community Church, Cub Scout Pack 141 of Pembroke and Cub Scout Pack 295 of Guyton arranged the program, which featured war re-enactors from surrounding areas and representatives from Fort Morris, Fort Pulaski and Fort McAllister.
From the BB guns to the slingshots to the cannons, cubs told organizers that they loved seeing the weapons in person and that watching the skirmishes was a blast.
Parents and scouts alike gave the event such positive feedback that organizers hope to make the event an annual occurrence, according to both Dombrowsky and Bill Bodmer, chairman of Pack 141.
“We would like to thank the groups from all over who volunteered their time for the re-enactment to give the almost 1,000 cub scouts and family members a great weekend,” Bodmer said. “We would also like to thank the Guyton Boy Scouts, Troop 295, for their help.
“We would especially like to thank the town of Allenhurst, the police, firefighters and EMTs for making it a safe and unforgettable program for these young scouts,” he added. “The scout program strives to head these boys in the right direction.”
