The 30th Long County Wildlife Festival, aided by sunny and cool weather, drew a large crowd Saturday to the event site off Lanier Road.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the Long County Citizen of the Year Award. On behalf of the county, LCWF Chairwoman Becky Fowler presented a plaque to Leonard Poole to honor him for his contributions to the Long County community.

The festival offered a variety of activities, including a dunking booth, slingshot gallery, archery range, shooting range, pony rides, kiddie train, kid zone, cakewalk, playground, face painting, catfish pond and pig chase.

Guests also had the opportunity to admire and buy crafts, such as Georgia Bulldog gifts, handmade quilts and throws, John Deer collectibles, woodcrafts, hats, caps and Civil War memorabilia.

In addition to old favorites, this year’s activities also included the Blue Tide Creepy Crawly booth, where guests could pet or have their pictures taken with snakes, rats, lizards and other creatures.

Arm wrestling was available at another tent, where former world-class arm wrestler Andy Fuller challenged visitors.

To eat, guests had their choice of fish, barbecue, fried chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Entertainment options included live musical and karaoke.

The LCWF was created in the 1980s as an avenue for local churches and nonprofit organizations to raise money for their causes. Additionally, it was created to encourage members of the community to mingle and have a time of fellowship while promoting family values.
