With only three regular-season games left, Bradwell Institute will try to get things moving in the right direction when the Tigers play host to Jenkins tonight for homecoming.
They’ll also try to avoid the miscues that have plagued them for much of this season.
“It’s been a good week of practice. The kids are upbeat, and we just have to go out there and make sure it’s Bradwell versus Jenkins and not Bradwell versus Bradwell,” BI coach Jim Walsh Jr. said.
The Tigers (1-6, 1-4) lead the series, 7-3, against the Warriors, who were last season’s Region 3-AAAAA runners-up but have struggled this year.
Still, Walsh, now in his 17th season at Bradwell, said the effort has been there, and no one wants to win as badly as his players.
Currently the Warriors (3-4, 3-2) are in a three-way tie with Benedictine and Johnson High for fourth place in the region, according to ga.prepcountry.com.
“I think they are in a similar boat that we are where they are fighting themselves as well as an opponent,” Walsh said. “But I expect a good game.”
Walsh said the Warriors will bring some size but added there is another factor his team must be prepared for.
Quarterback A.J. Guilford and wide receiver Juaris De La Rosa lead a talented offense.
“They’ll be big and like all the other Savannah schools that are going to have some speed,” he said. “We are going to have to play fundamental football.”
Bradwell has shown competitiveness at times this season and last week made strides late in a 34-24 loss to Windsor Forest.
The Tigers trailed, 27-6, before scoring three touchdowns in the second half of the game.
