Kool Kids for Christ, a free after-school program at St. James Community Center offers tutoring and sports. School-age children are encouraged to participate, but registration is required. The children will have worship and praise service followed by tutoring or private homework time. They may then participate in 45 minutes of sports before receiving dinner and going home. YMCA winter fun
Registration for youth, teen and adult basketball is under way through Nov. 1. Adult flag football registration is also through Nov. 1.
The YMCA will be hosting ballroom dancing from 6:45-7:45 Thursdays through Nov. 15. Registration costs $90 per couple for YMCA members and $135 per couple for program members. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-5311.
YMCA Basketball
The Liberty County Armed Family Services YMCA is taking registration for a one-on-one basketball tournament Nov. 10. Registration ends Nov. 2. The cost is $15 per player, ages 11- 16. Prizes will be awarded, including Xbox 360 games.
Coastal Crew Rebels
Registration for the St. James Coastal Crew Rebels basketball league is under way through Nov. 20. Age groups are 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. Registration is free but you must be registered to be considered for the teams. Volunteer coaches are also needed. In addition to basketball, the weight room is open from 2-8 p.m. and is available to school athletes. For more information, call Ernie Walthour at 884-3016.
Golf tournament
A charity golf tournament will be hosted at 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at Cherokee Rose Country Club to raise money for Eileen Park for treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. Donations may also be sent to (Biotherapy Eileen Park) Heritage Bank, Hinesville, GA 31313 or 300 E. Court Street. Dance classes
Creative movement, for ages 2-1/2 to 4 years, will be given every Wednesday from 4:05 to 4:35 p.m. This class teaches body movement and creativity.
Intro to dance, for ages 5-9 years, is offered every Wednesday from 4:45-5:30 p.m. This class teaches technique terminology and covers jazz, hip-hop, ballet and many others. The cost is $22 for Y members and $35 for non-members. For more information, call the YMCA at 368-9622.
Tennis anyone?
Registration is under way at the Liberty County Recreation Department for lessons that will start in early November and continue through late December. The schedule of classes is as follows: Ages 7-10 Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and ages 11-15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. All classes are at the Liberty County High School tennis courts. Winter Fest
The stage is being set for the first annual Winter Fest featuring a live concert on Nov. 23 at the Skybox Lounge in Midway and a concert and car show Saturday at 10 a.m. at Salters field. Producer Ernie Walthour is still looking for local talent to feature along with his headline bands for Friday’s concert. Gates for Saturday’s festivities open at 10 a.m., with a concert at 1 p.m. and the car show starting at 3 p.m. Admission to Friday’s concert is $5; admission to the car show is $5.
