Pageant names new area director

POSTED: November 1, 2011 7:30 p.m.

The Georgia Forestry Pageant Association recently selected Sherry Long as the new local director for Liberty, Long and Tattnall counties.
Long has been involved with pageants for the past 10 years, having been a pageant mom with her daughter. She also has been a member of the Tattnall County Production and the Wayne County Production teams for more than 10 years.
Long attends Ella Grove Baptist Church in Glennville, where she is the pianist and a Sunday school teacher for primary-age children. She also works full time as a paralegal for the law firm Jones, Osteen & Jones in Hinesville.
Long said she is excited and anxious to get started with her new duties.
The Georgia Forestry Pageant System bases its scoring system higher for the platform and interview portion than it does for beauty for the older contestants. The system wants intelligent, well-rounded young women who have poise and beauty but who also are able to communicate well and have moral or personal issues that are important to them.
The forestry pageant system was established in 1940, making it the oldest scholarship pageant in the state. The forestry queens “promote and protect the forestry industry.”
