Ludowici City Council voted to adopt a Certified City of Ethics program this past Tuesday during its February meeting, and is looking into applying for recognition as a Certified City of Ethics.
The program was established by the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) to give city officials an opportunity to publicly demonstrate their commitment to higher standards of ethical conduct.
The goal of the ordinance is to guide city officials’ conduct in areas such as financial disclosures, conflicts of interests and outside employment.
The council members also heard a presentation from Derrick Sills from the Heritage Bank, in regards to possible retirement plans for city employees.
Local contractor Cliff Ray made a presentation to the members on the possible costs of materials for the planned addition to the city hall building. The addition will furnish a meeting room and a municipal courtroom for the city.  Inmate labor is schedule to be used for the project, but Ray will oversee the effort and furnish materials. The council asked Ray to gather more information and they would readdress the matter during the March meeting.
Pierce Chapman told the council the library board was looking into installing a security light to increase visibility at night and to illuminate the flag in front of the building.
The city currently funds a portion of the electric bill for the library, and council members informed Chapman the city would continue to pay the same portion they had in the past.
The council accepted the resignation of Janice Anderson from the library board, and appointed Linda Manning to the position, and tabled reviewing the current Building Permit Ordinance until the March meeting.
Ludowici City Clerk Tara Warren furnished information for this story.
