Head Start accepting applications

POSTED: November 8, 2007 5:00 a.m.
Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority administers the Head Start Program from its main office in Brunswick. It operates 11 centers in nine counties and is presently funded to serve a total of 917 preschool children. Centers are in the following counties: Bryan, Evans, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Wayne; and two in both Camden and Tattnall.
Presently, the Long County Center is accepting applications for the 2007-2008 school year. Children for the Head Start Program must be at least 3 years old, and not older than 5 years old, on or before Sept. 1, 2007.
The Head Start Program provides individualized and group child activities, helping children fulfill their developmental potential.
While at the center, each child is considered a unique person with exploring minds and educational needs. This approach is also well suited to help children with special needs.
In addition, the program offers two meals and a snack daily, parent involvement activities, health and dental exams, as well as speech and language screenings. There is no cost to parents for this program.
Applications for eligibility may be completed at the center. The following documents will be required; birth certificate, proof of income (2006 tax forms or three consecutive pay stubs, Social Security, or DFCS letter, or a letter from employer, etc.), a copy of State of Georgia. Pre-school Immunization Record on Form 3231, and a physician’s letter for any child with special needs.
For enrollment, the following documents will be required: Social Security number, a physical examination, a dental examination, and a current Medicaid, Peach Care, Well care, or private insurance card if applicable.
For more information about the program, call the center at (912) 545-2273.
