Liberty County High School’s Michael Farrior’s 3-pointer at the buzzer forced overtime Friday night against visiting Tattnall County. The Panthers then did what they had to do in OT to earn a 65-60 win, leaving them undefeated.
Farrior was one of four Panthers who scored in double digits with senior Sayvon Wilson pacing the squad with 19 points. Derrick Brooks scored 17, Farrior added 15 and Aaron Scott chipped in 10.
The game was back and forth all night. Liberty had a six-point lead at the close of the first, but the Warriors’ Tyshawn Steger hit a pair of trey shots to keep Tattnall in the game and the Warriors trailed 24-20 at halftime.
Tattnall came out of intermission and ran a fast-paced offense, outscoring the Liberty boys 16-4 in the third.
Panther coach Willie Graham said it was his bench players who pulled them back in the game in the fourth quarter.
“DeAnte Bacon, Tamontray Tucker and Josh Powers gave us some valuable minutes on defense in the fourth and that allowed Mike to set up for the 3-pointer at the end of the game,” Graham said. “At one point we trailed by as much as eight but they did what they had to do to go into overtime and get the win.”
The win improves the Panthers to 6-0. They were scheduled to play Long County last night and will play Beach next Saturday before taking a short break.
The Panthers will be in Statesboro the day after Christmas for a tournament.
“Region play starts in January,” Graham said. “We will take some time off, but these games and the tournament will make sure we will be ready for those games.”
