The Long County High School varsity girls’ basketball team dropped its 10th game of the year last week, falling to McIntosh County Academy, 59-33, in Ludowici.
Playing in front of the hometown fans, the Lady Tide came out swinging against McIntosh County Academy but fell behind early, 17-6.
In the second period, Long County kept pace with the visiting team. At the half, the Lady Tide were down, 29-16.
In the third period, McIntosh got hot, outscoring the Lady Tide, 18-9, but the Long County girls continued to play hard.

Although the Lady Tide lost, assistant coach Kala Hires still praised her girls’ effort.
“The good thing about this group of girls is that they will play hard for all four quarters,” Hires said. “We’ve just got to keep working on the little things, work on running our plays, practicing hard, and a big thing is we have got to keep working until we start making our layups.”
Raven Rose led the Lady Tide with nine points. The game’s leading scorer was Shakhala Mells, who put up 14 points for McIntosh County.
With the loss, the Lady Tide’s overall record fell to 0-10. In the earlier game, the junior varsity girls’ team won, 41-36.
The Lady Tide are off until Jan. 3, when they will travel to Reidsville to take on Tattnall County. The Lady Warriors are 5-3 overall record and have a 5-1 mark in Region 2-AA.
