As 2011 winds down, the Courier is taking a look back at some of the more memorable sports moments and achievements of the year.
The final spotlight shines on the 2011 Bradwell Institute softball team and boys’ track field team.
The Bradwell Institute girls went 14-12 overall and 8-4 in Region 3-AAAAA earning third place and a trip to the first round of the state playoffs this season.
Lady Tiger Barbara Rego was named to the All-Region team and Karson Rogers, Kelissa Hargrove, Samantha Gonzales and Ashley Riles all received Honorable Mention. Rego was chosen to participate in the Georgia Dugout Club All State Games and last week she was chosen by the Savannah Morning News to the 2011 All-Greater Savannah Softball Team while Hargrove made the Honorable Mention’s list.
Rego had 59 at bats with 31 hits, 28 RBIs and 21 runs. Hargrove had 59 at bats with 27 hits, eight RBIs and 20 runs.
Rogers finished the season pitching a no hitter and a one hitter against Johnson High during a double-header on Oct. 1. She pitched another one-hitter against Windsor Forest on Sept. 17.
Rogers also had 46 at bats with 15 hits, 12 RBIs and 10 runs.
Candace Blair finished the season with two home runs for the Lady Tigers. She had 11 RBIs and scored  23 runs.
While the girls did the right thing on the diamond, the boys track team did their best as well, earning their fifth Region 3-AAAAA championship.
The Tigers were honored by the Board of Education with certificates of appreciation for their accomplishment.
