The holiday break is over, and prep sports will kick into high gear in the next couple weekends. The Liberty County High School boys’ basketball team will start Region 2A-AAAA action on Friday when the Panthers play host to Richmond Hill.
 Right now, the Panthers are 11-0 overall and are looking to stay undefeated and win their first region game. The Wildcats are 8-3 overall and are averaging 49.9 points per game. The Panthers are averaging 55.2.
The Lady Panthers (5-3 overall) and the Lady Wildcats (9-1) also are trying to earn their first region wins. Friday’s game is at Liberty County High School, and the girls’ game tips off at 6:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Bradwell Institute travels to Windsor Forest on Friday for a Region 3-AAAAA game. The Tigers played their final game of 2011 on Dec. 28 and fell to Osborne, 98-82. The BI boys are 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the region. The Knights are 1-3 in the region and 2-6 overall. The Knights are averaging 51.4 points a game, and BI is averaging 71.4.
The Lady Tigers are 8-1 in the series against the Knights since 2007. But according to ga.prepcountry.com, the Lady Knights are averaging 60.3 points per game to the Lady Tigers’ 44.6.
In other basketball news, Faith Baptist of Ludowici cruised to a 76-40 victory against Dunnellon in the final game of the Father Lopez Tournament on Dec. 29 in Dunnellon, Fla.
JJ Frazier paced the Crusaders scoring 23 points. Jaquez Motley chipped in 13, Kirk Hill added nine points, Keldon McCrary had six and Mike Merritt finished with five for the Crusaders.
