Long teams headed to state

Both Long County boys and girls teams compete in the first round of the state play-off tournament this weekend.
The boys were runner-ups in the 2-AA Region Tournament held in Baxley, and will host their first game in the playoffs against Screven County Saturday at 6 p.m. in Ludowici.
The girls finished in third place in the 2-AA Region Tournament, and travel to Sylvania to also take on Screven County, Friday at 6 p.m.
They won the state berths in the region tourney last weekend. Here is a summary of Saturday games

Boys
McIntosh County Academy beat Long County Blue Tides boys 64-55 in a game that went into double overtime. The loss makes the Blue Tide’s standing at 9-5 in the regions, and 12-10 overall. The Blue Tide advance to State in the Region 2-AA tournament.

Girls
Lady Blue Tide beat Jeff Davis 42-40 Saturday night. Gentara Holmes led with 22 points Brittany Mills followed up with 8 points, 4 steals and 7 assists. The team record is 8-7 in the region and 12-13 overall.
