Bradwell Institute was in Savannah on Friday night for a Region 3-AAAAA basketball doubleheader.
The BI girls won 61-45 behind 20 points from Shaquoia Crockett and 16 from Treniece Boles. The win improved the Lady Tigers to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in 3-AAAAA.
The boys’ fell 82-71 to the unbeaten Atomsmashers despite getting 18 points from Dazjon Tinae. The loss dropped BI to 8-8 overall and 7-4 in the region.
Long County wins sixth straight
The Long County High School boys’ basketball team pulled out a 62-60 win over Jeff Davis High School on Friday in Hazelhurst. The victory was the Blue Tide’s sixth in a row and ninth out of the last 10 games.
The win improved the Blue Tide to 11-5 and their Region 2-AA record to 8-2.  Jeff Davis dropped to 6-11 overall and 2-8 in the region. 
Long County trailed 50-37 heading into the final period, but aggressive defense helped the Blue Tide outscore the Yellow Jackets 25-10 in the fourth period.
Henry Peoples led all scorers with 22 points while Jamal Anderson added 18 points and Josh Berry chipped in 8.
In the girls game, the Lady Tide were defeated by the Lady Jackets, 52-13.  The loss dropped the Long County girls to 0-15, while Jeff Davis improved to 16-1 and 11-0 in 2-AA.
For the Lady Tide Jameka Boyd put up four points, Christa Prescott had three points, and Troianna Murray, Mikayla Lovett and Raven Rose each had two points.
Long County played at Bradwell Institute on Saturday night.
The Blue Tide will be back at home on Tuesday when Toombs County visits. The Bulldogs currently have a 7-7 overall record and are 5-5 in the region.  When the two teams met earlier this season, the Blue Tide won that game 67-56. 
The Lady Dogs come into their game with a record of 4-12 overall and a 2-10 region mark.  When the Lady Tide and the Dogs faced each other last time, the Toombs team won 44-30.  The ladies game begins at 6:30 p.m. with the men scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m.
