The First Presbyterian Christian Academy boys’ basketball team beat Frederica Academy, 53-49, on Friday at the St. James Sports Center, which put the Highlanders in a three-way tie for first place in the Georgia Independent School Association’s Region 2-AA.
Curtis Baptist, Frederica Academy and FPCA are 6-2 in the region.
On Monday morning, the coaches of the three schools met at Robert Toombs Christian Academy, the site of this year’s region tournament, to decide region seeding with a coin toss.
FPCA received the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 Frederica Academy at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The two squads are 1-1 against each other this season.
There is plenty at stake in the rematch because the winner will move on to the finals.
The rivalry between FPCA and Frederica has surpassed the rivalry that previously existed between FPCA and Bethesda, which now plays in a different region.
The FPCA boys are in the hunt for their fourth state championship.
The FPCA girls’ team, seeded fifth, opened the region tournament Tuesday night against No. 4 Curtis Baptist.
