Hinesville-Fort Stewart among top 4 job-growth leaders

POSTED: February 10, 2012 2:08 p.m.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for November 2011, the Hinesville-Fort Stewart metropolitan statistical area ranks among the top four metros out of 372 metros in the United States in employment growth rates since November 2007, which was one month before the recession officially started.

Some of the information was derived from the Garner Economics January 2012 progress report: Job Growth in U.S. Metros.

The MSAs leading the country in employment growth rates include  Bismarck, N.D. (7.4 percent); Morgantown, W.Va. (6.8 percent); McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas (6.6 percent); and Hinesville-Fort Stewart (6.0 percent).  As of November 2011, the Hinesville-Fort Stewart MSA has added 1,100 jobs since November 2007.

“Our primary mission at the Liberty County Development Authority is to grow jobs in the Hinesville-Fort Stewart area, and we are extremely pleased that our efforts have yielded new jobs in the community, especially during tough economic times,” LCDA CEO Ronald E. Tolley said.  “Since November 2007, we have been fortunate to announce several locations of new companies and expansions of existing industries in Liberty County.”

A look at November 2011 employment shows that 54 metros, or 15 percent, are at levels exceeding their November 2007 totals.  On average, U.S. metros are 4.9 percent below their November 2007 levels.
