The Hinesville Hurricanes team will kick off its first spring league schedule Saturday in Sylvania against the Tri-County Panthers.
The Hurricanes switched from a summer schedule to a spring schedule in order to keep pace with four other teams that switched their schedules in order to preserve their league. The change means the Hurricanes no longer will represent the Southeastern American Football League. Instead, they will represent the amateur league of the United States Football League, according to Hurricanes coach James Sharp.
“This is our first year going this route,” Sharp said. “We will be playing eight games, and the championship will be held in Augusta on June 2.”
The ’Canes start their first three games on the road. On March 10, they travel to Augusta to take on the Cobras. On March 17, Hinesville will be in Augusta again against the Knights. The Hurricanes’ first home game is scheduled for
7 p.m. March 24 when they host the Legion of Zoom at Liberty Independent Troop Park.
In other news, the Georgia Bombers went against the toughest team in the Elite Amateur Football League last Saturday in Jacksonville and fell to the River City Commandos, 56-0. The Bombers will host the Georgia Firebirds at 3 p.m. Saturday at Devaul Henderson Park in Richmond Hill.
