No damage, despite tornado warning

Worst of storm said to be passed

POSTED: March 3, 2012 3:18 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued for the Sunbury area about 1 p.m. Saturday, but the storm apparently did not produce a funnel that did damage.
"You know it did get real ugly," Liberty County Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Hodges said, "but it appears all we got really was heavy rain."
About 3 p.m., he said there had been no reports of damage and that he was hearing from the National Weather Service that the worst of the storm was over for Liberty County.
"We could be in for a lot more rain," he said. The service's forecast calls for rain to continue into Sunday.
The service's warning said radar conditions implied there was a funnel in the area, but that rain could be shrouding it. It said the cell that could produce the funnel was headed toward Richmond Hill and the Southside of Savannah. Reports from those areas were not available.
The storms that swept through the area Saturday capped four days of unstable weather that followed fronts across much of the country. Tornadoes in several states were blamed for more than 25 deaths.
