It was the Liberty Panthers third matchup against Benedictine Cadets and the Cadets are now 3-0 against the diamond Panthers, winning 10-0 in five innings Monday night at home.
The Cadets are 4-0 on the season, according to ga.prepcountry.com
Panther coach Joel Moody said three players managed to get hits. J.T. Evans earned 2 hits. Gary Albertson and Justin Dixon, each got one hit.
But the Cadets were able to slug the ball and run the bases well to close the game in five. According to Moody, Panther Kevin Chiu pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Panthers.
Saturday’s deluge didn’t stop the boys from playing in Brantley County. The Panthers’ first matchup against the Herons was called due to weather, but despite the local tornado warnings, the teams managed to find a dry spot and play.
However, the Panthers lost, 10-0, as well, with Lamar Speight providing the only hit for the Panther squad, according to the coach.
The Liberty boys are 2-5 overall and start Region 2A-AAAA play on Friday at Richmond Hill, which is currently 1-4 overall.
In other baseball news, the Bradwell Tigers’ game at Savannah High on Friday was postponed. The Blue Jackets still have several athletes competing in the final four of the state basketball tournament.
The Tigers were scheduled to host Islands High Wednesday in their first Region 3-AAAAA game of the season. The Tigers are 0-2 overall.
The Courier will have the results of Tuesday’s game in Friday’s edition.
