The Long County High School baseball team dropped its third straight game Wednesday with a 7-4 loss on the road to Claxton High School (2-5).
LCHS head coach Brian Thomas said the difference in the game was the Claxton Tigers’ ability to make key hits when it was necessary.
Tide pitcher John Christianson, who relieved starter Luke Golden, took the loss for Long County.
The Blue Tide’s leading batters were Jacob Turner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, and Golden, who went 1-for-1 with a double and also was walked three times.
“We are excited about coming out to practice and getting better. With each loss we get to see what else we can improve on,” Thomas said. “Eventually, we will start winning more games. We just have to be patient and get back to the fundamentals.”
With the loss, the Tide fell to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in Region 2-AA.
Prior to this weekend, the Tide were scoring 5.5 runs a night and allowing 5.9 runs.
The squad was scheduled to go back on the road Friday for a big region game against Toombs County.
The Blue Tide play two away games this week. Long County plays Appling County at 6 p.m. Tuesday and McIntosh County Academy at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Tide’s next home game is March 23 against Brantley.
