The Long County High School weightlifting team recently finished sixth in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association State Weight Lifting Tournament.
Nick Stock won his 181-190-pound weight class by lifting a total of 1,135 pounds. Fred Nelson competed in the 171-180-pound class and was the runner-up in his division, lifting a total weight of 935 pounds.
Several others logged solid performances.
Jaleel Braggs finished third in the 140-below division by lifting a total of 730 pounds.
Deonte Ellis placed fourth in the 151-160-pound class by lifting 770 pounds, and T.J. Sims placed sixth in the 151-160-pound class by lifting 745 pounds.
The total weight lifted was determined by each participant’s performance in the bench-press, squat and clean-and-jerk events.
The meet was at Thomasville High School.
“These fellows have been working hard in the weight room, and we are proud of their accomplishments,” LCHS weightlifting coach Ronald Flott said.
