Two local girls will represent Hinesville and Long County in Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Savannah.

Hinesville native Gracie Carter, 5, and Long County native Ashley Murphy, 17, competed March 10 in the Miss St. Patrick’s Day Pageant, sponsored by KISS 97.3 FM, in Savannah and earned spots in the parade.

The girls will wave to the crowd from aboard the KISS 97.3 FM float.

Carter is the daughter of Leigh Herrington and Zachary Carter of Hinesville.

She is the granddaughter of Dawn Smiley of Hinesville, Ed and Linda Herrington of Cordele, Sue Fowler of Hinesville and Rodney Carter of Gum Branch.

“I’m so ecstatic,” Herrington said. “She’s excited and I’m excited for her, and I don’t think she realizes yet how big this will be.”

Murphy is the daughter of Brian and Kim Murphy. A junior at Long County High School, Murphy is a member of the cheerleading squad and the yearbook staff.
