The Long County High School baseball team and track team did well in recent outings.
On Friday, the Blue Tide picked up their first 2-AA Region baseball win of the year. The Ludowici team defeated McIntosh County 11-5 in Darien. With the win, the team now has a 4-7 overall record and a 1-5 region mark.
Thursday, the Blue Tide is on the road again having to face Bradwell Institute. When the teams met last year, they split the series with the Tigers winning the first game 11-3 and the Tide taking the second contest 15-11.
The game is in Hinesville and the first pitch is schedule for 5 p.m.

On March 8, the Tide track team competed in their first meet of the year, taking on Tattnall and Toombs counties in Reidsville. In that meet, the Long County boys won the top spot, while the girls were runnersup.
Doing well in individual competition was Kicha May, who won the shot put and discus events. Her shot put distance was an impressive 33 feet. Her winning discus toss was 88 feet.
On Thursday, the team competed in Pembroke against Bryan County and Island High School. Both the boys and girls team finished as runnersup.
May once again won the shot put and discus, with throws off 33 feet and 95 feet. For the men, Delonte Singleton won the 100-meter dash at 11.1 seconds and Jeffery Hall won the shot put with a 39-foot throw. The Long relay team also won the 4x100 at 44.5 seconds.
“The track team is working hard in practice and we are seeing excellent results at the meets,” LCHS athletic director Karen Swindell said. “We are pleased with the results we have seen early in the season. I know they will continue to improve their times and distances.
“Hopefully we can send more to state this year, than we were able to last year,” he said. “Thanks to the coaching staff for their hard work and dedication to the track team.”
