Bradwell Institute’s track teams took second place at the Georgia Southern Invitational March 10 in Statesboro.
The Lady Tigers scored a total of 92 points just behind Statesboro High’s 96-point first place finish. Northside Columbus placed third with 75 points.
The Tiger boys also finished just behind Statesboro (98) scoring 86 points. Brunswick High took third with 62 points.
The invitational hosted 20 high school track teams.
Leading all scorers for the Tiger boys was Anthony Holsendolph. He scored 24 points.
According to track coach DeAndre Davis, KeAndre Ladson climbed to the second spot in the state’s ranking for the triple jump. She took first place in the event, leaping 37 feet, .08 inches.
Davis said darkness canceled the 4x400 relay.
“This event might have given both teams a victory or a share of the lead,” he said. “Once again it was all the phases of the events that helped to pull out victories — jumpers, throwers, sprinters and distance runners. The coaching staff is very proud of all the athletes.”
Lady Tiger coach Brian Williams said the girls finished with eight medalists and the boys finished with six.
He added that David Thornton broke the school record by running the two mile race in 10:08.80.
“I’m extremely proud of our team’s effort,” Williams said. “We have a very young team and every week I’m pleasantly surprised by the performances of our athletes. Several athletes achieved personal bests and that shows we’ve been doing the right things.”
The Tigers were scheduled for Saturday’s Swamp Relays in Waycross. The Courier will bring you the results when they are available.
